The Tyrol

Once upon a time in 1964 there was a married couple in Val Gardena in the South Tyrolean Dolomites. Her name was Frida Kasslatter and she was born to a hotel owner family in Pufels. Karl Malloyer, her husband, was a successful merchant. At that time, Wolkenstein was a small, sleepy mountain village which was surrounded by meadows, mountain farms and untouched nature. Together they bought a piece of land from the Countess of Wolkenstein. After two years of construction, the Tyrol Hotel was ceremoniously opened. It quickly became the favoured summer residence of illustrious guests, such as the Italian President Sandro Pertini and other well-known entrepreneurs and aristocrats of those days.

Tyrol Hospitality in the Dolomites

In 1974 Frida and Karl bought the adjacent villa owned at the time by the famous ski racer, Pia Riva. The Tyrol Hotel expanded, improved and enriched by building a new indoor pool and a modern, spacious spa area.
Frieda and Karl enjoyed traveling all over the world wanting to expand and refine their horizons as hosts as well as art lovers. At that time their niece, Bibiana, had already got involved in the management of the Tyrol Hotel. She has always shared the same passion for this profession, constantly striving for still more knowledge and professional skills, looking for the most talented employees and aspires to be one of the best of hosts. The following years saw several expansions and improvements: the Tyrol Hotel was increasingly becoming a tourist destination for loyal guests from all over the world.
In 1989 a young man from Tuscany went on holiday to the Tyrol Hotel, where he quickly attracted Bibiana’s attention.

And as it happened, the South Tyrolean Bibiana ended up marrying the Tuscan Maurizio and with it a new era began in the Tyrol. Both cherish the same joy at being a professional host and they are strong at complementing one another both creatively and efficiently. In 1994 their son, Emanuele, was born. He carries a double cultural heritage – that of South Tyrol and of Tuscany – and the future of the well-established house in itself.
Today we, Bibiana, Maurizio and Emanuele, are your hosts. Our love for the hotel profession, for our magical alpine homeland, for our Ladin roots, for the scents and flavors of Grand Cuisine and for the joy in meeting with our new and old guests – all these give us fulfillment and joy and all are an incentive to continuously awakening new ideas and acting upon them.

HISTORY AND TRADITION

Val Gardena Hotel Tradition
TYROL HOTEL SINCE 1966

The Gardena couple Karl Malloyer and Frida Kaslatter opened the Tyrol Hotel in 1966, aiming to pamper their guests in an upscale and refined manner of hospitality.
Is it the clean, cozy atmosphere or is it the fantastic location with stunning views of both the Sella and the Sassolungo Group? Is it the all round attentive service, which is second to none? Or could it be the modern, versatile spa?

KARL AND FRIDA: PIONEERS IN HOSPITALITY

Maybe it’s the glorious past of the Tyrolean style atmosphere that we still feel even today? The nearness of the hiking trails and ski lifts? The upscale, fine dining?
Travelers from many different countries have always liked coming to our house.
In Selva Gardena, in the Dolomites (a UNESCO Heritage site), one of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the world.
